Breastfeeding Celebration Sessions

Breast Feeding Celebration Sessions : Mini Session Dates Listed Below

Whether you are just starting your journey or celebrating the end of this beautiful season there is no better time than now to commemorate your breastfeeding adventure. This week is World Breastfeeding Week. A time where women all over the world celebrate and acknowledge this incredible gift of motherhood that bonds us to not just our community or even our history but the whole world.

As powerful as the breastfeeding bond is, it's also hunger prevention and nutrition for so many babies all over the world. This week is not just about celebrating our rights as women to feed our baby's openly but it's also about the fact that breastfeeding is a lifesaving and poverty reducing part of the incredible motherhood journey. I am constantly blown away by the creation of the female body. It can not only grow life it can then produce enough nutrition and food to keep that child alive outside of the womb.

Breastfeeding as a photographed subject is nothing new. It has been celebrated, recorded and documented throughout centuries from paintings, to sculpture to photographs. Seeing the history and story of all of the mother's who have gone before us and have experienced the sacrifice and bond of breastfeeding is nothing but inspirational.

In Honor of Breastfeeding Awareness Month and World Breastfeeding Week I want to open up Breast feeding Mini Sessions.

Milly L. Fresh 48

A Rainy Day First Meeting at Home

| Milly L. Fresh 48 Story

A huge part of a birth story is the moments after. The moments of coming home and meeting the loved ones that will forever surround you. This story seriously melts my heart every time I look through these photos. The moments this little brand new baby girl met her big brother. It was everything you want in a first meeting.

Amber and Chad were awesome, they got home from the hospital a day or so after bringing this little one into the world. They took the time to wash up relax and introduce little Milly to her new surroundings. And they planned to have little Elias come meet his little sister the following day and have me there to photograph the genuine and real reactions and love that was poured out. Now toddlers are often the hardest kids to react the way you may want. I always encourage parents to have pretty low expectations when it comes to first meetings and fresh 48s because thats just a whole lot of change for little mind. But since Amber and Chad are incredible documentary photographers, they knew exactly what they were getting. They wanted to full joy, crazy antics, tantrums and true life that now being a family of 4 would bring.

The moment Elias got home he ran straight to his mom, snuggled in on her and asked for a snack. There was no notice of little Milly sitting in the center of the room, he was right in his mode and it was so sweet to see. After getting his chicken nuggets (a must) Chad prompted him a bit to go explore the living room. Those reactions were seriously priceless. He was curious, joyful and a little shocked. When Amber went to feed little Milly, Elias was so focused on her not eating mommy and insisted she eat some of his nuggets. It was seriously the cutest thing, him shoving chicken nuggets towards them, even laying them in her little basinet as a tempting lure away from his mom.

I think it was important to let Elias do his thing. Find some joy and get back to his energetic self. So we all followed him into his room where we watched him find wonder and normalcy amongst his balloons. The beauty of this moment was watching Chad and Amber in their pure patience. There was no "right" way for Elias to react except the way he did.

As our session continued there was a serious storm rolling in, clouding up all the windows. in order to get enough light I suggested we take some photos outside while the rain still wasn't coming down. It was peaceful to see the clouds roll in and daddy cuddling his brand new baby. It was also adorable when their sweet neighbor came by to drop of treats and meet their new little girl. We were out there maybe 10 minutes before the wind picked up and swept us back inside but those moments of joy and family sitting on their porch were truly some of my favorites.

I love this session because it really takes you through the story. The first meeting to the processing little brain of a new big brother. In so many ways Home fresh 48s may be the way to go. Especially when you have older siblings, those moments of first meeting can be all over the place but what better place to do them, than in the comfort of their own surroundings. Letting those new big brothers and sisters work through the change and joy they feel all while surrounded by the normal home they know.

If you want to see the first part of this story (little MIlly's birth) go check out the story HERE it also includes a short film with clips from this Fresh 48 session!

Mothers Day Special

Motherhood Sessions Special : In Celebration of Mothers Day

Growing up my mom was always the creative type, an artist and nurturer at heart. She always had a paint brush in hand, craft project in process or camera up ready to capture our life.

She valued documenting our everyday moments before it was even in style. We even have these videos from back in the 90s of when we were all little ones. She would wake us each up with the video camera and capture everything we did in those 24 hours, from potty training to preschool to putting us to bed at night. Her love for just making a record of our family history has been something that has stuck with me my entire life.

I remember though that while she captured life as art in a beautiful way, she struggled herself to get in front of the camera. She always wanted to be the person taking the photos of our family road trips, spaghetti covered faces and even the one to volunteer to snap the group photo at Disney world. She avoided being in the frame as much as possible.

She is in no way a rare case and I can admit I’ve gotten that gene too. Once I started to become a photographer it made it that much harder for me to force myself in front of it. It’s weird how walls come up and how safe it feels to be in control of capturing the moment rather than being present in it. I think as women we all have a bit of anxiety when it comes to being seen and photographed.

Especially as moms, the moments that you are spending with your littles and being present just don’t usually feel like your most glamorous. We can all agree parenthood isn’t perfect, and that mistakes and messes are made. But these seasons of childhood, raising your kiddos and documenting those in between moments have such an importance. Remembering the way you routinely woke your little ones up each morning, the way you took your kiddos to school with coffee in one hand and your youngest sleeping in the carseat, the sweet giggles that fill the house at bath time or the way your kiddos love to play outside until dark.

So for this Mother's Day instead of offering mini sessions or mommy and me sessions I thought I'd offer simply a few new types of Motherhood sessions with a limited time discount in honor of Mother's Day.

$150 off any Motherhood Session
