Fall Mini Sessions 2019 | Hanna Hill Photography | Raleigh Family Photographer | Durham Family Photography | Chapel Hill Family Photography

What a crazy 2019 it’s been so far. Chris and I found out we are expecting our first baby right at the beginning of the year which really shook everything up for us! But we are so excited for our little to join the adventure sometime this Fall! This is why we will only be having ONE Mini session day this year. The big day is September 21! And there will only be a few slots available so if you are considering a session in NC this year, now is the time to grab your slot!

Each year I love getting a chance to reconnect with past families and meet new parents too! These 30 minute Mini sessions are such a sweet and simple way to get frame worthy pictures that celebrate the year you’ve had! I’m keeping things very laidback this year, relaxed locations and only 5 spots for the entire day.

Each Session will be 30 minutes at a location mentioned below!

They will include 6 fully edited images

with downloading and print release.

This year is just like last year, you will receive a full viewing gallery

and be able to select your favorite 6 or purchase additional files if you would like!

Mini Sessions this year are

$200

with full payment needed at contract signing to reserve your session.

All payments can be made through PayPal.

Once you're paid up and contract signed

you'll be officially on the schedule!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I book?

Click one of the "Request a Date and Time Here" links above. Or Here! All session requests come through me! I'll answer questions and then send you the contract followed by the invoice for payment. All contracts must be signed and invoices paid within 24 hours of request in order to confirm your slot. Out of fairness to everyone, I cannot hold any session times beyond that point. I'll respond to requests in the order that I receive them. Please NO FACEBOOK or INSTAGRAM Messages.

What Should I wear?

This is a great question! This year I want to encourage all of my clients to really take time to get a little dressed up(while still feeling comfy) to make these incredible photos that much more special. My style of photographing is very laidback, emotive and intended to bring out the natural joy and beauty of your family, but that doesn't mean getting a little styled wont take these family moments to the next level :) I'm linking below a Pinterest board for inspiration but I would love to be in contact before then if you have some outfit combination ideas! I'll also send a couple "dos and dont's" once we are officially confirmed!

What Should we bring?

Always bring a blanket! I'll have a very neutral one in my car this year just in case but there is nothing like a family quilt or colorful throw to add a little pop of personality to your session. We will do a mixture of walking, standing, sitting, snuggling and even lying down if the organic mood strikes us, so be sure to have something to relax on other than the cold ground.

Also leave the snacks in the car or in small amounts.

But definitely bring along books or small toys if your little one may need a little distracting and you’re ok with them being in some of the images. These sessions are fun, not posey in anyway so letting them wander and explore, pick up sticks or flowers is definitely allowed (and a little encouraged!)

Can we bring our pets?

Sadly, no pets allowed this year :( If you would like to upgrade your session to a full family session to include your favorite pups, rabbits or whatever animal in your home you treasure, please let me know as soon as possible and I will do my best accommodate you and your family this Fall! Unfortunately the limited time frame of these sessions just doesn't give us what we need to balance little ones, snuggles and wiggly animals.

How many images will I receive?

Included with each session is 6 Hand-edited, high-resolution images with a personal print release. You will receive access to an online viewing gallery of edited files(25-40) for you to select your favorite 6 for download.

You will also be able to purchase additional photos individually, in sets or purchase the entire gallery if you would like!

How long will my session last?

Sessions will last 30-35 minutes from "hello" to "see ya soon!" It is important to be about 5-10 minutes early so that everyone is ready when we meet and prepared to walk up or down to our exact location!

Where will the session take place?

Each "Mini Session Block" has a specific location. Where to meet will be sent at confirmation of booking or right before our session. Both spots this year have very minimal walking, Brumley Nature Preserve has a beautiful trail that will give us a few location stops while the special location within Forest Hills is an secluded yet open field that keeps things very simple!

What happens if the weather doesn't cooperate?

Overcast, even drizzly weather can make for good photographs...Umbrellas and rain coats are adorable and fun!! But, I do understand that it’s not feasible for all situations. On the day of our Session I will make the call on whether we will try and attempt or not, I will do my best to move sessions around to get everyone photographed within the day. But if the weather is truly pouring down and we have really no choice...

All sessions will be moved to the following day (SUNDAY)

Can we use our slot for Maternity or Couples photos?

Yes!

If you are expecting a little one or celebrating your love, you are welcome to book these Fall Mini Sessions!

Is there a limit on how many can come to the session?

Yes,

since we are limited on time, only the nuclear family is welcome to your session slot (ie. parents and children) If you would like to include grandparents or share you session with other members of your family, just let me know and we can upgrade your session to an Extended family session this Fall and customize it to a location and time that works for the whole family!

Jude W. Newborn

Jude W. Newborn

Hanna Hill Photography | Durham, NC Newborn Photography

These photos have swiftly become some of my favorites. The coziness of this beautiful first time mom snuggled up with her sweet hubby and little boy, melts be every time. I met Lia and Andrew through a mutual friend and super early if I recall in their pregnancy. Lia really wanted to meet and hear details first so she could best choose the perfect session to celebrate her little one. And I loved that, I love being able to grab a cup of coffee and talk babies, birth and photography!

It ended up being perfect that she chose an at home newborn session. Because soon after little Jude was born they all ended up moving from this sweet first home they shared as a family of three. Getting to celebrate not just those perfect little details but also the place and setting of where the memories were made always brings another level of depth and story to photos.

There was something so timeless about the style of this session, the joy on their faces and the color bring me back to the 1970s/60s and I completely love it. The whole session screams young love, first time parents, first home, and just the beginning of their long and beautiful story. One of my favorites moments (which was really this whole session:P) was when I asked if they wanted to bring little Jude outside, to get a little fresh air and celebrate the sweet season he was born in. They of course were down and those little sweet moments of them as a family of three on the steps of their home bring me so much joy. Those are the moments they will look back on when Jude goes off to college or moves out of their home for the first time. They will revel in the memories of bringing their little baby home and the sleepless nights they shared. They will cry thinking about how tiny he was and how big he has grown to be. They will be so proud to have been his parents! ... it gives me chills :)

If you have a little one on the way and want to celebrate with a sweet Newborn session this I would love to hear from you!

Ok can we talk back up cameras? I am in a constant struggle on what next to invest in, I'd really love a 24-70mm for my Fall season of births and for my vacation to Kenya in December but my back up camera is very poor(like i'm ashamed to even say it :P) Would you invest in a nicer back up camera first? or go with the lens? My Canon 6D is only 2 years old. Getting the back up seems like the responsible thing to do but the lens seems like the thing I want to do. I also have big dreams of getting the Mark IV and making my 6D the back up but that wont be for another year or so to save up. Also if I wanted to get the lens and back up what would be a good camera that runs lower price then the Canon 6D like a nicer crop sensor? would that even be worth it? ugh the debate within me is so real right now

The Meckley Family

The Meckley Family : Durham Nature Preserve Family Photography Session

I love capturing the joy and craziness of siblings. I come from a family of 6 and had one of those beautifully chaotic childhoods and I'm so thankful for it. Having siblings all in your business and always someone to talk to. That's why I really fall in love with sessions that have a few little ones running around with joy. The Meckley family was so much fun to photograph from playing with the sweet older brothers to capturing the sweet snuggles with their little girl. The dynamics of this family are so beautiful. Authentic family moments are my jam, the reason I love what I do.

Ethan J: Newborn

Ethan J.: Lifestyle Newborn Session

The joy on this little baby's face says it all. I can't get over the love and comfort I felt when I walked into the Jones home. Those first couple weeks after baby is welcomed home are exhausting, hard and new but being able to capture their love for little Ethan was totally worth it. I love lifestyle newborn sessions because they really are all about capturing mom, dad and baby in their element during some of the most vulnerable and joyful weeks of their life. You don't want to miss a single giggle from baby and you live so presently to all of their needs. I love how photography can be there to celebrate the present. To help you take a breath and see the beautiful parts of the life you're living. Even when it's exhausting and new there is so much to cherish.

If you are looking to capture these precious first weeks after your little one arrives with laid back celebration feel free to reach out! I'd love to capture your story!

Santiago : Birth Story

Santiago : A Family Centered Home Birth

Hanna Hill Photography | Raleigh Birth and Family Photographer

Santiago's birth was one of fierce strength and the epitome of what a family centered birth can really be like. Home birth is such a sacred and incredible way to bring your child into the world. There is just a sense of peace and comfort by being in your own space surrounded by the people you love and the atmosphere you've made home. It's hard to put into words really. Behind every birth there is a lot of fear, anticipation and worry about all the things that may or may not go wrong. It's why most women choose a hospital to bring their little one into the world. In so many ways that makes sense and I love those hospital birth just as much. But home births are in and of them selves accepting that birth is empowering and that you were actually built to handle a birth. That sense of strength and vitality always puts a completely different vibe into the air. A vibe of "you can do it" "you are strong" and "this is a true celebration."

The morning Santiago came into the world I woke to a text at around 5:00am. I was actually on call as backup for his arrival not the main photographer. In the world of birth photography having a back up is absolutely essential. As much as all of us want to be 24/7 available to out clients, life also happens and births are so unpredictable. I love that in the birthing community there really is a sense of friendship and community because just having someone else that you trust who's art is also beautiful and qualified brings you a sense of peace rather than competition.

So back to the story I woke up to a text from the main photographer Anna, of Anna Pollit.com, saying mom was in labor and that baby was coming today. Santiago's momma was on her 3rd baby so I knew that meant probably a swift labor but honestly had no idea how quick this little guy would arrive. I woke up showered and waited from a text from the mom to hear how far along things were coming. By the time I was done and dressed she had texted and was seriously ready for me to head that way. When I arrived I was met with the smell of home cooked soup, two sleepy brothers who had just woken up to all the commotion and a momma fiercely laboring.

She was a true warrior, one minute she was laughing and joking with her two year old son and the second she was peacefully yet intensely working through her contractions. The two big brothers were seriously making us all laugh, they were so incredibly excited to witness and meet their new little brother. The oldest just kept saying, "I'm so excited to meet him." and would run in every once and while to check if his little brother was on his way or not. The family focused vibe was so incredible and beautiful. This momma wanted those she loved to surround her and Santiago with as much relaxed and positive energy as possible.

I was seriously only there about 2 hours before this little boy was ready to come and see his family. This momma maybe pushed 3 times and he was out and crying, ready to meet his new family. The emotions in the room were uncontrollable, so many tears and laughs filled those first moments. Their oldest son just was over the moon that he now had another little brother to love on and their second son was so curious about how his life had just changed before his eyes.

I got to stay and watch this family of 4 become 5 and it was an incredible sight to see.I got to capture all of those incredible firsts that happen right after he comes into the world from his first feeding to getting his measurements done. It really was such an honor to be apart of this birth and seeing the incredible joy and celebration that comes along with telling birth stories.
