Hanna Hill Photography

Days for,

Raleigh-Durham, NC and Kansas City, MO

Hi! This Summer has been so busy and yet has gone by in a blink of an eye! I have been hard at work with birth photography here in Durham, NC but always in my heart are these family sessions. I seriously feel pure joy just watching my families grow and change with each year and getting to capture the life and authenticity of childhood and parenthood!

I'm so excited to be able to announce these Autumn Mini sessions! They are always so long awaited by those who follow me on social media and always my favorite way to get my family chaos and love dose for the year!  Can't wait to connect with so many local families as my first year running Mini Sessions here in Raleigh-Durham and to finally set aside a couple days to come back out to Kansas City too, just to catch up and capture some of my favorite past clients!

These sessions are perfect for families wanting to get updated family moments captured. So request your session ASAP!

Like all of my sessions, it is my goal for each session to feel laidback and natural to you and your family. I want to connect with you and your kiddos so that the pressure is completely off. I definitely will take part of or time to get that more standard smiling photo for you guys to have but most of my session is filled with capturing the in between moments, the laughs, snuggles, kisses and seconds of quiet. So you probably wont hear me saying, "say cheese" the whole time but more like hey "who can be the silliest" or "who can squeeze mom the most!" I love being able to take our time and capture the chaos and joy of growing with your family so don't be worried about getting them to sit still for all 30 minutes, we will play and capture the life and exploration of childhood and create beautiful moments for you to always treasure about these season.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I book?

Click one of the "Request a Date and Time Here" links above. Or Here! All session requests come through me! I'll answer questions and then send you the contract followed by the invoice for payment. All contracts must be signed and invoices paid within 24 hours of request in order to confirm your slot. Out of fairness to everyone, I cannot hold any session times beyond that point. I'll respond to requests in the order that I receive them. Please NO FACEBOOK or INSTAGRAM Messages, please.

What Should I wear?

This is a great question! This year I want to encourage all of my clients to really take time to get a little dressed up(while still feeling comfy) to make these incredible photos that much more special. My style of photographing is very laidback, emotive and intended to bring out the natural joy and beauty of your family, but that doesn't mean getting a little styled wont take these family moments to the next level :) I'm linking below a Pinterest board for inspiration but I would love to be in contact before then if you have some outfit combination ideas! I'll also send a couple "dos and dont's" once we are officially confirmed!

https://www.pinterest.com/hannahillphotog/wardrobe-inspiration/

What Should we bring?

Always bring a blanket! I'll have a very neutral one in my car this year just in case but there is nothing like a family quilt or colorful throw to add a little pop of personality to your session. We will do a mixture of walking, standing, sitting, snuggling and even lying down if the organic mood strikes us, so be sure to have something to relax on other then the cold ground.

Also leave the snacks in the car but definitely bring along books or small toys if your little one may need a little distracting. These sessions are fun, not posey in anyway so letting them wander and explore, pick up sticks or flowers is definitely allowed (and a little encouraged)

Can we bring our pets?

Sadly, no pets allowed this year :( If you would like to upgrade your session to a full family session to include your favorite pups, rabbits or whatever animal in your home you treasure, please let me know as soon as possible and I will do my best accommodate you and your family this Fall! Unfortunately the limited time frame of these sessions just doesn't give us what we need to balance little ones, snuggles and wiggle animals.

(KC families may be a little more limited since I am only in town a limited amount of time, but still feel free to reach out)

How many images will I receive?

Included with each session is 8 Hand-edited, high-resolution images with a personal print release. You will receive access to an online viewing gallery of edited files(15-30) for you to select your favorite 8 for download.

You will also be able to additional photos or purchase the entire gallery if you would like!

How long will my session last?

Sessions will last 30-35 minutes from "hello" to "see ya soon!" It is important to be about 5-10 minutes early so that everyone is ready when we meet and prepared to walk up or down to our exact location!

Where will the session take place?

Each "Mini Session Block" has a specific location. Where to meet will be sent at confirmation of booking or right before our session. All spots will have some walking so be sure to where comfy/walkable shoes.

What happens if the weather doesn't cooperate?

Overcast, even drizzly weather can make for good photographs...Umbrellas and rain coats are adorable and fun!! But, I do understand that it’s not feasible for all situations. On the day of our Session I will make the call on whether we will try and attempt or not, I will do my best to move sessions around to get everyone photographed within the day. But if the weather is truly pouring down and we have really no choice...

For KC families I will have availability on Monday morning/afternoon October 8th for make up sessions before I leave town.

For Raleigh/Durham families your session will be moved to the following day (SUNDAY) same time and location

Can we use our slot for Maternity or Couples photos?

Yes!

If you are expecting a little one or celebrating your love, you are welcome to book these Autumn Mini Sessions!

Is there a limit on how many can come to the session?

Yes,

since we are limited on time only immediate family is welcome to your session slot (ie. parents and children) If you would like to include grandparents or share you session with other family, just let me know and we can upgrade your session to an Extended family session this Fall and customize it to a location and time that works for the whole family!

Milly L. Fresh 48

A Rainy Day First Meeting at Home

| Milly L. Fresh 48 Story

A huge part of a birth story is the moments after. The moments of coming home and meeting the loved ones that will forever surround you. This story seriously melts my heart every time I look through these photos. The moments this little brand new baby girl met her big brother. It was everything you want in a first meeting.

Amber and Chad were awesome, they got home from the hospital a day or so after bringing this little one into the world. They took the time to wash up relax and introduce little Milly to her new surroundings. And they planned to have little Elias come meet his little sister the following day and have me there to photograph the genuine and real reactions and love that was poured out. Now toddlers are often the hardest kids to react the way you may want. I always encourage parents to have pretty low expectations when it comes to first meetings and fresh 48s because thats just a whole lot of change for little mind. But since Amber and Chad are incredible documentary photographers, they knew exactly what they were getting. They wanted to full joy, crazy antics, tantrums and true life that now being a family of 4 would bring.

The moment Elias got home he ran straight to his mom, snuggled in on her and asked for a snack. There was no notice of little Milly sitting in the center of the room, he was right in his mode and it was so sweet to see. After getting his chicken nuggets (a must) Chad prompted him a bit to go explore the living room. Those reactions were seriously priceless. He was curious, joyful and a little shocked. When Amber went to feed little Milly, Elias was so focused on her not eating mommy and insisted she eat some of his nuggets. It was seriously the cutest thing, him shoving chicken nuggets towards them, even laying them in her little basinet as a tempting lure away from his mom.

I think it was important to let Elias do his thing. Find some joy and get back to his energetic self. So we all followed him into his room where we watched him find wonder and normalcy amongst his balloons. The beauty of this moment was watching Chad and Amber in their pure patience. There was no "right" way for Elias to react except the way he did.

As our session continued there was a serious storm rolling in, clouding up all the windows. in order to get enough light I suggested we take some photos outside while the rain still wasn't coming down. It was peaceful to see the clouds roll in and daddy cuddling his brand new baby. It was also adorable when their sweet neighbor came by to drop of treats and meet their new little girl. We were out there maybe 10 minutes before the wind picked up and swept us back inside but those moments of joy and family sitting on their porch were truly some of my favorites.

I love this session because it really takes you through the story. The first meeting to the processing little brain of a new big brother. In so many ways Home fresh 48s may be the way to go. Especially when you have older siblings, those moments of first meeting can be all over the place but what better place to do them, than in the comfort of their own surroundings. Letting those new big brothers and sisters work through the change and joy they feel all while surrounded by the normal home they know.

If you want to see the first part of this story (little MIlly's birth) go check out the story HERE it also includes a short film with clips from this Fresh 48 session!

The Motherhood Project: Part Three

The Year in the Life of Motherhood Project :

Part 3

32 Weeks - 37 Weeks

With every day we get closer and closer to meeting this little one. I go to sleep each night thinking, I may be called at 4:00am to rush to L's side and witness her miraculous birth story. I get a little too invested in all of my clients but this one is tugging at my heart. I want to witness the moment where L says, "it's a girl or boy" and calls this sweet growing baby it's name. I want to experience her strength and witness her Hypno baby ways.

I am also excited to move into this next part of the photo series where its all about the motherhood reality. Pregnancy is inspiring and life changing but pales in comparison to the lifetime of child rearing. I can't wait to document the bringing home of this baby, the sleeping and not sleeping, breast feeding and juggling a million things at once. Not for me but for L. to have this proof of her invincibility and tenderness when faced with 5 little ones.

Part three is of our last few sessions before their beautiful birth story (which I'll probably do as it's own part all together!) We got to celebrate L. and her sweet marriage, her relaxed moments of solitude waiting for this sweet baby and the chaos of being a very pregnant mom with 4 older boys in the heat of the summer.

32 Weeks

There is something rare and fierce about a couple experiencing a pregnancy together. It shapes you, challenges you and prepares you for together guiding and caring for this little one through life. To do this now 5 times is an incredibly beautiful thing to watch. L. and her husband reflect the joy and courage it takes to bring up 4 boys and still get so excited to talk about baby number 5. For me it was fundamental to the story to get to document their love and intimacy there in their own bedroom and space.

[ Also that gorgeous land we did the outdoor photos on is their neighbor's back yard. Which seriously has the most lush landscape I've ever seen! ]

37 Weeks

Summer is hot for all of us and North Carolina has not been spared the hellish temperatures. But I can't even imagine how it feels to also be really pregnant, have all 4 boys home from school for the Summer and be dealing with the heat. L. of course doesn't ever let it phase her and literally swims in the pool almost every day. When we met for coffee the first time back at the beginning of the year, this idea of her being 37-39 weeks pregnant and chasing her kids around the pool was a memory she never wanted to forget. I could not wait to capture this chaos and joy for their family. It was the perfect way to finish the first half of our series.

The Motherhood Project: Part Two

The Year in the Life of Motherhood: Part 2

26 Weeks - 30 Weeks

If you are just tuning into this Project, I encourage you to start off with Part One. But for those who have been following along, I'm excited to share some of my favorite photos of all time. After L and I started planning and processing this project I think we both realized the beauty in curating some of the sessions while also capturing the day in the life moments that we often forget. So in the end we moved forward with a balance of documentary style and more creatively composed. With each stage of pregnancy we wanted to capture something significant to that season.

Looking through them now, its powerful how, with each week baby grew he/she became even more of a focal point of our sessions. Where may have started with L and her mother bear strength and tenderness , this growing belly and baby started to eclipse all else in the.  Seeing L carry life and grow her tiny human was easily the most unique part of each session. When she is holding her sons, that baby belly is there and when she is laughing with her husband, that baby belly is there. It's a beautiful truth and constant through this series so far.

26 Weeks

Her 26 weeks moved us into the really getting to know this baby season. I asked her if i could tag along on her prenatal exam at Women's Birth and Wellness Center. She got her belly measured and we listened to heart tones. It was special to capture this simple part of every pregnancy. The exams leading up to baby are usually forgotten about, but that anticipation and joy is such a beautiful thing to remember.

30 Weeks

This may be by far my favorite session of all time. We took the family out for a Mother's Day Picnic at the Lake. This for us was just a way to give her beautiful photos of her family, living and loving life before this little one arrives. L bravely wore a bikini and looked like a goddess of the Lake carrying that 30 week belly and splashing with the family.  I learned so much about the family this day. Mostly that L is so loved by the boys/man in her life. They see her strength and joy and they find so much comfort in that.

The Motherhood Project: Part One

A Year in the Life of Motherhood Project: Part 1

18 weeks - 24 weeks

As I sit here about to go on call for this little one's birth I am astounded by the story we have created so far. I started this project as a way to cleanse myself creatively, try new things and tell 1 story all the way through. I put this odd dream out into the universe at the End of 2017 with very little expectations or even plans. Just a handful of photos I wanted to take. It then took me months to actually narrow the different moms down and decide finally on working with L. She is the mother of 4 boys, pregnant with her fifth. I've gotten to watch and photograph so many different moments of her motherhood journey since this year began and gotten to learn so many things about who she is.

She is organized, giving and confident in so many ways.

She listens to her children but takes time for herself.

She rarely wears makeup and slays in a bikini.

She laughs the most at knock, knock jokes and her sweet husband.

She is quiet sometimes but fills the award space with so much warmth.

I'm sure once we finish this series I'll know so many more things. And I'm excited to get to tell all of these stories that add together to create such a complex and strong person. I've had this thought so many times since we started, how awesome it will be for her children to know her in this way when they are older? Know her beyond the caretaker or the nurturer to the raw parts of who she is as she experiences pregnancy then birth and all the months that follow. I also think about how incredible it will be for her to get to know herself one day. When all the kids are grown up and she enters the new season of woman hood. I've had this conversation with my own mother, her pain looking through old videos and old photos because she just can't remember the woman in them. The energy she once had and the purpose. I'm excited for L to have this series as a way to know herself as a mother and a woman and for all who have followed along to get to know her too. I get approached constantly from all different people, they always know about L and her journey, they all make votes about boy or girl and I honestly can not wait to share once, this little one arrives. (seriously any day now)

For Part one I'm sharing the first two sessions we did this year one of vulnerability the other of the motherhood routine.

The Year in the Life of Motherhood: Part 1 | Hanna Hill Photography | Raleigh Birth and Family Photographer

18 Weeks

Throughout the last months there have been days of celebration and days of vulnerability and I think once this little one arrives those days will explode even more. I started the series with L's pregnancy journey at the 18 weeks mark. It was scary to ask someone to be so vulnerable after just meeting but L was incredible. She wanted to celebrate her growing body, acknowledge the joy and stress of mothering not just this little one growing inside but the carrying of her whole family in so many ways.

24 Weeks

For this session I just wanted to get to know L in her element. See her day to day and meet the whole family. From an afternoon with just her youngest playing legos, to picking up the older boys, the library, cooking dinner and sharing a meal all together. It was purely documentary and truly set the stage for getting to know L as a mother.
